Beltane

Beltane altar scene

History & Meaning

A fire festival celebrating fertility, union, and the full arrival of spring — maypoles, bonfires, and flower crowns are all genuine surviving folk customs, not modern inventions.

Correspondences

Colors: red, white, green. Herbs: hawthorn, rose, rosemary. Foods: fresh dairy, early berries, honey cakes. Crystals: rose quartz, carnelian, emerald.

Ritual

A simple flower crown made from whatever's blooming locally, worn during a short outdoor walk with the specific intention of noticing new growth — an easy, non-elaborate way to mark the day.

Recipe / Activity

Honey cakes: a simple sweet quick bread with honey and a bit of lemon zest — a traditional Beltane offering food, easy enough for a weeknight.
